1. THE CALM

Not a single visual of chest-beating or wild grief.Sorrow itself has been elevated.

2. THE DIGNITY

Disciplined queues for water and groceries. Not a rough word or a crude gesture.

3. THE ABILITY

The incredible architects, for instance. Buildings swayed but didn't fall.

4. THR GRACE

People bought only what they needed for the present,so everybody could get something.

5. THE ORDER

No looting in shops. No honking and no overtaking on the roads. Just understanding.

6. THE SACRIFICE

Fifty workers stayed back to pump sea water in the N-reactors. How will they ever be repaid ?

7. THR TENDERNESS

Restaurants cut prices. An unguarded ATM is left alone. The stronh cared for the weak.

8. THE TRAINING

The old and the children , everyone knew exactly what to do . And they did just that.

9. THE MEDIA

They showed magnificent restraint in the bulletins. No silly reporters. Only calm reportage.

10. THR CONSCIENCE

When the power went off in the store , people put things back on the shelves and left quietly!

What an amazing nation , we can all learn from them, and the world could be a lot better place to live in.

I haven't posted for a long time. There is a good reason behind it. We sold our big 4,000 sq. feet house on 3/4 acre lot and bought a new 2,000 sq. feet house on a small lot, just 5 minutes from the old house.Selling and looking to find just the right place to live is very tiring and stressful.It's a huge job and we are not finnished yet.Moving day is March 15 and 16.
Among all the packing and getting ready I took some time out for ME. I painted 3 new ACEO paintings. I hope you like them.

We just came back from one week all inclusive vacation in Mexico.Had a great time , relaxed and had fun.The weather was not good the first 2 days, there was clouds and rain. A big downpoor.But then it warmed up and we were able to get some tan.

There is a place not too fahr from where we live in the Fraser River Valley, it's called VALLEY OF THE TULIPS. My husband and I took our dear friend Bill to see the tulips. What a show, breathtaking.

Belize holiday 2010

We just came back from Belize and I wanted to share our experience.
Louie and I are lucky enough to have a good friend Scott who has a beautiful new place in the Stann Creek District in Belize.He invited us to go and stay for a few weeks.
Unfortunately it took us 3 days to get there, because of airline delays and mechanical problems with some of the airplanes.We missed celebrating new year's eve with Scott and Karen and Scott's brother and some other friends. They were good enough to save some of the lobster dinner for us .

The Plantation in Stann Creek near Placencia is a diamond in the rough. There are lots of properties for sale along the ocean and lagoon.In the next few months the road is going to be paved and there is going to be a new international airport , so this changes would realy help .In a couple short years it would be a beautiful resort.

One of the highlights of our trip was going to Guatemala to see the Mayan ruins in Tikal.
Tikal is one of the largest and most impressive Maya pyramid sites in Central America. It's located in rural Northeast Guatemala.
With huge temples reaching above the jungle canopy, bespeaking of a civilization intricately organized and advanced in artistic expression. The most famous and most extensive of all archaeological sites in Central America, Tikal is located in the remote Petén region of Guatemala..
The steamy hot jungles of the eastern Guatemala lowlands hide evidence of a vast Mayan civilization that prospered around 700 AD. Archaeologists exploring the region excavated forest-clad mounds that led to the discovery of a complex network of ancient cities.

It's time to feature another great artist.

Welcome to "Island Dream Life". My name is LisaBongZee and I live in Hawaii. I love to paint tropical island paradise scenes. Anything from tiny secluded tiki huts, to Polynesian fisherman, to the lush tropical flowers and plants that grow here in the "Land Of Aloha".

Most are imaginary places in my mind.... in my dreams. A perfect far off land, devoid of problems and politics. A simple life, with no alarm clock, no schedule. Where the only work is paddling out for that perfect wave, or fishing in a turquoise lagoon while the cool island breeze sends sweet smelling Frangipani your way…….

Having lived in Hawaii most of my life, I have been able to experience some of the "Island Dream Life" of this very special place. Through my paintings, I hope to be able to capture the peaceful, serene Paradise that most of us dream about!

Oils are my favorite, although I do enjoy watercolors, as well. I am always up for trying new innovations and ideas, which keeps my style ever changing.

Some of my other hobbies include surfing, snowboarding, hiking, kayaking, mountain biking, and working out in my yard of beautiful tropicals, which are the inspiration for many of my paintings!

It is time to feature another great artist and WWAO friend, Betty Refour.

I have been drawing for as long as I can remember. My favorite color as a child was yellow orange. It had to be on everything I drew. I wanted to be a Fashion Designer. Coco Chanel was my idol. I loved the classic style to her designs. I went to design school and after I finished when I couldn't get a job as a Head Designer :), I pursued other interests. Some 15 years later after a back injury I started painting as a form of therapy. In the years since attending school I continued to draw, but I had never painted. When a friend asked me to design a card for her baby shower I got the idea to put my artwork on cards.
I lost my grandmother to Breast Cancer, my mother to Myeloma and my sister Rose has Autism so I am always looking for ways to advocate for these causes.

Rose and I are both primarily self taught and our work can be found in collections around the world. Rose is mostly non verbal and will often use art to express herself.

It's a bright sunny day and we are going to the river ( Fraser River). It's only a few minutes drive from our home in Rosedale , B.C.
My husband and I love walking along the river and looking for Agates.Every time I find one I get very excited. It's like finding a little Gem.
I't one of the most relaxing , rejuvinating and exhilirating experiences.

In the first 2 pictures you can see what they look like polished and the 3rd picture shows what they look like in their natural state.

I am constantly amazed by this very talented lady. How she creates this beautiful Art Quilts with tiny little pieces of fabric and puts them all together to make these one of a kind masterpieces is beyond me.

About Me:
My ultimate passion is making ordinary photographs into Fabric Art Quilts. This is my 5th year of working with fused batiks and hand dyed fabrics. This process started more than 10 years ago with making Watercolor or Color wash floral quilts and wall hangings. A few years later, I began making Mosaic Photo Quilts from ordinary photographs for family members as gifts. Now, the Art that I am creating is actually smoothing out the edges of the mosaic tiled pieces and making gently curved shapes for a more realistic image.
Normally, I begin with a black and white photograph and select my fabrics to add the color as shades or values to make the image. The lighter colors are whites of eyes and darkest are shadows of hair or maybe pupils of the eyes. I prefer to use colors that are vibrant and unexpected, even though I have made a few with real skin or true colors.
A few of the pieces are only strips of fabric, such as the Mannequin and the Golden Lab. This process can be done in a weekend. Most of the other pieces are for purchase or I will even create personal images from your photographs! Contact me at bracys@cox.net and enter in subject line: My Photo Art.

I wanted to show you a very talented lady who creates pendants of my Original art ,her photography and the artwork of other artists .

Bio
B.J. Antonik started experimenting and making clay pendants in the fall of 2005. Since then she has sold over 3,000 pendants to clients in the United States and all over the world...and her client base continues to grow. Currently working from her Studio in Pennsylvania, she creates pendants from the artwork of a dozen professional artists and creates custom designs for clients and artists alike. An artist in her own right, she creates works of art in pottery, stained glass, and photography.

Her true love, however, is clay. Working with Polymer Clay has opened a new field for allowing great pieces of art to be worn as "Original Art" Jewelry. "After viewing some beautiful art paintings online, I contacted KKC Bauder for permission to use her lovely paintings on my pendants. She graciously agreed. Thus the idea of "Original Wearable Art" was born. Jean is a very talented artist, whom I admire greatly.

I paint with bold, clean strokes, thick with rich, sometimes surprising, colors that express what I see and feel when painting. My hope is that in the end I have engaged the emotions of those who look at my work.

I begin long before I pick up my brushes using design and composition principles to outline the work. I then paint with abandon and joy. The resulting work shows my personal application of impressionism with a minimalist quality.

Often inspiration comes from what I see walking on my ranch on the historically rich, brushy edge of the Texas Hill Country. Here daily, I encounter constant contrasts and variety in texture and color - the dichotomy of harmony and discord; lushness and barrenness; serenity and energy.

My challenge is to show the complexity of creation by painting intimate, personal portraits of nature. Whether choosing a landscape or still life, close observation reveals the ordinary as extraordinary.

I am drawn by light and shadow. Many of my paintings depict plays of light and interesting shadow contrasts that further enahnce the subject. I work in several mediums and love to paint many different subjects. Currently I create in acrylics, watercolor and colored pencils. I am drawn to imperfection in a subject rather than perfection. If there is a spot of rust - I will include it!

Professional Training
I am primarily self-taught, however, I continue to take classes at the Munson Williams Proctor School of Art in Utica, NY. Currently, I am doing independent study in a small classroom setting.

Artist's Statement
I like to take things from nature that we ignore, take for granted or trod upon without a second glance as my subjects. This most often happens to be stones, rocks and pebbles. They come in more colors than just grey and brown - we need only look a little closer. Beauty can be found in the simplest things.

The Artist
Amanda is a self-taught, eclectic artist who tried a bit of art school and decided it was not for her. She wanted to do her own thing! She was born in Maryland, USA and later lived in Georgia and the South West Coast of England.

As a child she loved watching her Mother duplicate on paper her favorite toys and objects around the house. By the time Amanda was 8 she was an avid drawer and Nature was her Muse. Amanda has explored many subjects and techniques over the years but has now returned to her roots with Nature and wildlife as her subjects.

Amanda is a published artist and active member of EBSQ - Self Representing Artists. She is currently working on several projects; including Pen and Ink drawings of frogs and a new series of Earthscape paintings. In March 2007 Amanda returned to the USA and now lives in Athens, Georgia with her husband, daughter and 2 cats.

Memories of Bulgaria

Last night ,we were watching a program on the Knowledge Network, called " Michael Palin's New Europe " Michael traveled to Macedonia,Bulgaria and Turkey.It reminded me of our trip in July 2005.It had been a long time since I have been back in Bulgaria where I was born and raised.
My husband and I stayed in a small village with my aunt for 4 weeks and we made some trips to Sofia ( Bulgaria's capital) Veliko Turnovo, Nesebar, Sozopol and we went on a bus trip to Istambul, Turkey for 3 days.
That was an experience in itself.

This is the old city,located on a peninsila conected to the mainland by a narrow strip of land. Lots of turists from many different countries come her every year in the summer months.

This is my Studio Gallery. We have a huge room in the basement of our house and two hallways which my husband made into a Gallery . I am very lucky.

This piece took 35-40 hours to complete. The two main fabrics (the purple and blue) were purchased from ElleJays here on Etsy. These fabrics actually gave me the idea that they would look nice with Obama's image. I had to select 11 other colors to complete the palette. I love how the colors came together and I thank Linda for destashing and allowing me to purchase her last pieces from her stash.

The Golden Hoop was created in May of 2003! What started out as a hobby turned into a passion!

The Golden Hoop has contracts with many different artists to turn their beautiful artwork into cross stitch patterns for your stitching enjoyment. I use a computer program to help create the patterns and spend many hours (and sometimes not so many, depending on the pattern) working on each creation. I tweak each one until I feel it is just right for stitching. Because I use a computer program, each pattern looks very much like the original artwork. When you are finished stitching one of these patterns, you will be very proud of your own masterpiece!

I design my own original ideas as well...mostly geometric, or quilt like patterns...I also design most of my freebies freehand too...

Our little holiday

Louie and I went to Birch Bay for 5 days a couple of weeks ago. His daughter Kathleen has a time share Condo there and nobody was using it , so she asked us if we wanted to go .I have never been there before,it reminds me a little of White Rock, but smaller and not quite as busy.
The weather was very good.We had a nice relaxing time.Louie neaded to get away from working so hard in the yard and I neaded to get away from house work and cooking.
We went for walks along the beach ,had a swim in the pool and a dip in the hot tub,played horseshoe and washers game on the lawn, went to dinner a couple of times.And we did some shopping at the new Birch Bay Mall .They had some realy good deals.

My friend Ilene came for a visit yesterday.We went to Bridal falls,which are just accross from where we live.It's a beautiful walk up to the falls with all the trees full of moss. It's like a rain forest. The sun was shining through the branches. What a great day.

I painted this Misterious Tree on acid free mat board , on the velvety site. I wanted to see how it feels to paint on a velvety serface. I am pleased with the way it turned out, but it took a lot longer then any other Tree painting.
